your guide to the new moon with moonstone

We have had so many massive energetic shifts over the past few weeks; things that have opened us up to massive realizations, frustrations, and sparks of inspiration. This started with the Full Moon in Capricorn which was heavily focused on an audit on how well things have been working in your life. This combined with Mercury Retrograding into Cancer (which is still happening until 7/23) has created an emotional time of deep reflection and potential frustration. The feelings that we spend time and effort hiding (whether it’s familial wounds, the emotions we never express, or boundaries not enforced) have all come up to be reckoned with. On July 30th, Jupiter entered Leo, which brought about a change in the way we receive luck and success. On top of this, Mars entered Gemini making it conjunct with Uranus on the 4th of July. This created a charged energy between luck and action, and asked for you to embrace taking big leaps to get big results. Last but not least, Neptune stationed retrograde on July 7th. This retrograde happens for nearly half a year, and turns the outward dreaminess that we have towards the internal. Venus also shifted into Virgo, bringing in the energy of showing up with acts of service in all your relationships (including the one with yourself). So if you’ve felt exhausted since the end of June, it makes sense.

All of this leads us to the New Moon in Cancer on July 14th. This New Moon is maybe the only quiet point in July, so it’s important to use it to your advantage. New Moons are excellent jumping off points for refreshing your energy, intentions, and actions because they can help provide that little extra boost to make these new habits stick. The New Moon boost happens regardless, but you can really super charge your effort by working with the intentions of this specific moon. The New Moon in Cancer is here to be fertile ground for a new beginning for your internal landscape. From your feelings and emotions to your thoughts and beliefs about yourself; this Full Moon is about resetting yourself so you can have a more centered and bountiful rest of the year. All of the trials you have struggled with leading up to this moment helped to clear pathways and blockages that have been holding you back. For this new moon, look to see where you can set new intentions that will support your body and emotions in feeling rejuvenated, safe, and secure. Think about ways you can pour back into your energy reserve with physical and emotional self care, setting boundaries in your relationships, and how you can truly let go and receive help from others and the universe. It can feel easy for Cancer energy to call forth your inner crab, and make you feel like you’re all alone and need that protective outer shell, but this is the time to open yourself up to receiving help and love from the people around you. A beautiful life doesn’t come from hiding away, and this New Moon is here to remind you of that.

While everyone will be feeling this tug towards emotional awakening, your rising sign (and which house Cancer lives in within your houses) can also have an impact. If you know a little about your chart, specifically your rising, you can scroll down and see where it will affect you most.

Important note: this is generalized based on having a different sign in each house, for full accuracy double check your own chart!

New Moon in Cancer Horoscopes

Aries Rising - Cancer in the 4th House

This lunar cycle will be bringing up emotional realizations around your family life. It could be with your current family or wounds re-emerging from childhood so they can be healed. With this placement it is important for you to recharge yourself through caring for your home over the Full Moon. This could be decluttering, redecorating, or even finding a new residence; anything that can help make you and your inner child feel safe and grounded for this fresh start.

Taurus Rising - Cancer in the 3rd House

The New Moon in Cancer is prompting you to focus on the way you communicate and express your thoughts and emotions. It’s vulnerable to share how you actually think and feel, but to move forward you need to allow people to understand you on a deeper level. During this new moon, focus on emotional nurturing to strengthen your confidence in your words. This could be with affirmations, journaling your thoughts and feelings, or even practicing expressing yourself with people you feel emotionally safe with.

Gemini Rising - Cancer in the 2nd House

For you, this new moon is all about recognizing and holding value to your worth. Reflect on where you have accepted less in life in service to others. This sacrifice and belief that you don’t deserve what you want in life echoes into what you accept and the way money flows to you. This is an excellent time to focus on deep emotional care. Think about what you would do and say to help a friend who feels that they aren’t worthy, and treat yourself the same. With both Mars and Uranus in Gemini, you are receiving an extra boost of random chance and energy to take actions on them.

Cancer Rising - Cancer in the 1st House

This is the perfect time for you to begin completely fresh with resting and resetting. Treat this as your personal new year! You get to choose the way you accept love, the way you care for yourself, and the way you find safety and comfort within. Jupiter lived in Cancer for the last year, bringing a lot of possibilities and success into your life, but also A LOT of transformation and growth that may not have always been comfortable. Take this time to pour back into yourself with physical, mental, and emotional self care, so you can embrace this new start fully.

Leo Rising - Cancer in the 12th House

This is your time to reflect on the past year spiritually, and see what you are now ready to accept into your world. With Jupiter in Cancer, you were offered many different points of reflection over the last year, and now it’s time to set down that baggage so you can explore all the new possibilities that are being offered by Jupiter in Leo this year. Take this as a rest point in your journey, to help you reset before you leap into a world of new beginnings and luck.

Virgo Rising - Cancer in the 11th House

The New Moon in Cancer is here to help you reflect on your friendships and where your energy goes and is celebrated. Friendships are one of the most power amplifiers in the physical world, and when you are celebrated and supported by others (and vice versa). Take this moment to reflect on the relationships that you feel uplifted and loved by, and examine the ones that feel as though there is a disconnection. Is it caused by your own struggle to open up to others, have you grown apart, or do they not support your dreams? Taking some solo time to rest and reflect on this will help you to see where you want to put your energy and where you’d rather hold back and play your cards close to your chest.

Libra Rising - Cancer in the 10th House

It’s time to do a little bit of an emotional check up on yourself, specifically with how well you balance your career and outer world with your emotions. Are you constantly pushing past your limits to finish deadlines or stay a little later to get ahead of your colleagues? It’s time to pause and see if this path is still working for you. It might be time to lean into what your heart is actually desiring versus the path that you are currently on. This might be uncomfortable, but it also might be the guide to bringing confidence, joy, and emotional stability to your life.

Scorpio Rising - Cancer in the 9th House

This New Moon is asking you to expand your perspective and activate something within. While you may feel comfortable exploring the internal depths, this placement is actually asking you to look outside of yourself and see what you are ready to explore there. It could be learning a new skill or honing a talent, but it also might be asking you to reflect on your beliefs of the world around you and take a leap of faith. Your self care is all about playing, exploring, and keeping your mind open to the wonders of everything.

Sagittarius Rising - Cancer in the 8th House

This new moon is asking you to transform and go inward to find safety and healing. It can feel scary to go to the depths of your emotions in a sign like Cancer, but this is your fresh start for emotional renewal and a more centered rest of the year. Confront the truths that have come up through Mercury Retrograde, and allow those wounds to rise up and be healed. Provide your body with grounding during this time to help you stay present while sorting through your depths.

Capricorn Rising - Cancer in the 7th House

It’s time to reflect on how you are showing up in your relationships. Are you taking on too much for others, maybe managing their emotions and states to the point where you no longer are an active part inside of it? It’s time to pause and reflect on if you have been overgiving and creating an imbalance. You deserve to be loved, nurtured, and cared for, just like you do for the people you love. Conversations and physical self care (maybe even a date with yourself) are in order.

Aquarius Rising - Cancer in the 6th House

The Cancer New Moon is your time to re-evaluate your self care habits, and see where you might benefit from creating a more consistent routine. A slow, steady routine in the morning, where you get to just exist for a while in your home feeling cozy is an important part of your day. It’s crucial not to sacrifice your self care for the benefit of others. Try envisioning what your perfect morning would look like and see where you can add in those rituals just for you.

Pisces Rising - Cancer in the 5th House

Your job for this New Moon is to rediscover play. It’s easy to get bogged down and find yourself frozen in indecision, or perhaps feeling as though your joy is something you need to earn. This new moon is perfect for helping you to reconnect to the part of you that needs to decompress and create something new. This creative self care will help you find balance in the rest of the year, so you don’t trigger exhaustion or burn out.

Practices and Rituals for the New Moon

Caring for your Physical Body. The most important thing you can do surrounding the New Moon is to listen to your physical body and allow yourself rest. This is especially true with the New Moon in Cancer because its focus is resting and helping your recharge for the year. This generally might mean going to sleep earlier or sleeping in later if you can. It may also mean having better sleep hygiene, like putting electronics away earlier or drinking a relaxing cup of tea before you head to bed. Another important factor is making sure you are hydrated. When we are shifting a lot of things energetically, our body needs water to help the energy continue to move and refresh our minds and bodies. Be sure to drink more water, or potentially cut out extra coffee or alcohol.

Set Your Intentions. Creating a list of intentions for the upcoming month. Even if you don’t do any specific rituals with the intentions, making the point to look forward and give yourself somewhat of a roadmap towards your dreams and visions can help you manifest and bring more into your life. Use the horoscopes from above to help you narrow in on a topic, if you aren't sure what to do.

Cleanse and Clear your life. You might naturally get fed up with a mess in your life and feel the need to straighten it out around the new moon, but if you don't, this is the time for a clean and refresh of your space and personal energy. This may mean cleaning and putting clutter away and then energetically clearing your space with incense, sage, a room clearing spray or selenite. Taking a shower before going to bed might also be a good idea for clearing off the energy of the previous month so you can move in fresh and new.

Create a crystal grid over your intentions and place it in your windowsill. If you want to make the most of writing down your intentions, amplify with crystals! You can choose to place crystals on and around your intentions in view of the new moon to help the crystals soak up that energy while amplifying and holding space for your intentions. This will work even better if you select crystals that support the energy behind your intention. (ie: Rose Quartz for self love and acceptance, Citrine or Jade for financial prosperity)

Meditate and do Breathwork in the energy of the moon. This is great for when you can actually go outside and soak in all the new moon energy, however any time you take for yourself to help you center and ground under the new moon is powerful. Reflection and releasing are important when starting a new moon cycle, so take the time to experience and create that space for you. Breathwork is incredible for helping you ground and reconnect with your body, especially if you have been feeling aimless or drifting.

Moonstone - Moonstone is always a great stone for new moons, however it is an exceptionally good stone for the Cancer New Moon because it helps you to accept the version of you that is transforming and changing. Moonstone keeps you feeling safe and balanced in that ever flowing change.

Moss Agate - Moss Agate allows you to forgive yourself and let go of what is no longer meant for you. Life has been really hard the last six months. Things happen and when you don’t release them, they will hold you back from creating a future full of brand new possibilities. Remember that you probably made the best decisions that you could at that time, and now you get to do something new.

Blue Chalcedony - Blue Chalcedony helps lift emotions that we shunned or hidden away so that they are capable of acknowledging and releasing that feeling, perfect for this New Moon’s releasing properties. It reminds you to honor and love all these parts of yourself and the experiences that you’ve lived because they have made you who you are.
